On the Run
On the Run
*Footsteps echo in a glassy maze,*
*Shapes that flicker, shadows play,*
*Lost and found, I spin around,*
*In circles where no end is found.*
*(pause, scattered strums)*
*Ticket in hand, but nowhere to go,*
*Planes above, they dip down low.*
*A whispered word, then it’s gone,*
*On the run… on the run.*
*(quiet, trailing guitar notes)*
**(Chorus)**
*And I’m spinning, tumbling down,*
*Over fields, through ghostly towns.*
*The sky drops out, I’m falling fast,*
*But the ground just melts to glass.*
*(pause, slow strum)*
*In the distance, engines hum,*
*The race is on, but who has won?*
*Faces blur, then fade away,*
*We run and run and run all day.*
*(choppy, staccato guitar notes)*
**(Bridge)**
*Left and right, the road won’t stay,*
*Shapes dissolve and float away.*
*I laugh, I trip, but there’s no ground,*
*The world is spinning round and round.*
*(soft picking, dreamlike pause)*
**(Chorus)**
*Running, slipping, through the air,*
*Reaching out but there’s nothing there.*
*Lights flash by in threads of red,*
*The path unwinds, the end’s ahead.*
*(pause, echoing guitar)*
*There’s no start and there’s no end,*
*Just circles where the road won’t bend.*
*In a blur, the world spins on,*
*Gone again… on the run.*
